Guess I need to put this at the top!

Because some of us are listing books that we've never read before and don't really know what they are about but heard it through a grape vine that they were good, and someone on this club may have already read the book and found it very inappropriate, or have other opinions about it; this is going to be the new set RULE!
I'm going to do a rating system and I hope it works. If you have already read one of the books listed then you are welcome to make a COMMENT (not a post) about the book.

This is how I would like the comments to look....
"I have read (book name) and this is my rating for it...(ratng)"
That's ALL!!!

Rating system:
EP: Extremely Poor
P: Poor
O: Okay
G: Good
EG: Extremely Good
E: Excellent

Now if the rating is above okay, then at the end of the month that the book is in you may write a post or comment about the book and what you thought of it. Please keep thoughts of the book for the months that they have been chosen for!!! If there is something seriously wrong with a book that someone has suggested then PLEASE EMAIL me with that problem and I will contact that person and let them know.
I really hope this works out and that you guys can agree with what I'm doing.
Thank you!
Mele

The New Book Blog...

The blog is now official!!!!
So I'm curious, do you guys want to start it this month or would you guys like to start it next month? Let me know. If you want to start it this month I will choose a book.
Also if you guys have suggestions please let me know. I'm open to any suggestions...this is the first time I've ever done something like this. My first question is....Is a month too long for one book? I was thinking that maybe we could do two in a month? Course you're always welcome to read more if you'd like, but I'm saying for the club. Should we read at least two books for discussion a month or is one enough for everyone?
Here is what I'm thinking....my dear sister made a good point that sometimes not everyone can get a hold of books that may be suggested. So I've got a couple suggestions, let me know what you think or give your suggestions.
First Suggestion: I was thinking that instead of just choosing one book for the month, that the person choose two to three books. Then everyone see if they can get a hold of at least one if not all of those books by the end of the first week. Then we see which book was most available and make that book our main focus for the month. We can still read the other book or books so we can discuss those as well.
Next Suggestion: The person of the month chooses three to four books for the month. Everyone just read whichever one they like the most, then at the end of the month you post what you thought of the book and anything else. If you notice someone else read that book, then you can discuss it with that person as well. That way we can see what everyone thought of the book they read and see if we would be interested in it later.
Now for choosing books....you can choose any book that you like. Unless it's vulgar...I will NOT have things like that on my blog. Now, I know that most of the books I read have series, so do you guys have suggestions for those? This is what I was thinking. If you have a book that is a series make it known at the beginning. If everyone reads that book and really enjoys it and wants to continue it, then we do so for the next however many months it takes. Does that make sense?
Any more suggestions? I've never been to a book club let alone run one. :) So tell me if there's anything else I should be doing. If I don't add you as an author of the blog and you'd like to be, please let me know.
Thanks everyone and I'm really looking forward to this.

This sounds like fun! One other suggestion - we could pick an author, and read any book by that author....that might make it easier for people to have a little "freedom" in choosing what book they want to read. Also, I'd rather do one book a month.

i think one book a month is good it just might get to complicated if we are adding a whole bunch in one month and i figure with amazon and stuff you can get almost any book in the world cheep (the sell used books). but i think if we did start the first book in a seires that maybe the next month we have the regular book of the month and then maybe if you liked the second book of last months seires and so on only reading one seires at a time. thats my idea. i just think have several options a month is just too complicated and then what if you pick a book no one else did? i think we could still get one in this month. i was thinking at one point we could do the new Josph smith paper books (the scond one is just about to come out and also there is the new dan brown book that came out that will be very easy for anyone anywhere to get. those are my ideas

I agree with Sarah about planning 6 months in advance. I took a literacy class during college and here are 6 genres for you that we could rotate through:

1-historical fiction
2-fantasy
3-biography
4-informational
5-young adult/children
6-non-fiction

There are others and I have all of my books categorized into each genre so if you're looking for ideas, I know a "few."

Also, why not have everyone email you their suggestions for each genre and create a quiz on the side of the blog. which ever one gets the most votes for each genre (6 questions total), is the winner. And then we have 6 months of books to read (or more in case of trilogies).

Whew!!!

Wow lots of suggestions...so here I begin.
I agree that we should stick with one book a month and then I like the series idea too. But at the beginning I still think people should inform others that it is a series.
Next the Author idea is a good idea, but I'm worried because some Authors have written so many books that I know people won't read the same book. I kind of want this to be like a book club so you can get others input on books that have been read. Does that make sense? I'd like to keep it to where we'll at least get a chance of reading the same book. Maybe if someone wants to go by Author they can list some of their favorite books from that Author and then people can decide? I don't know what do others think?
I do think having the six months all figured out in advance is a good idea.
Thank you for all of your suggestions! I hope by the end of this week I'll have enough people on here and that I can have everything figured out and we can start a book. Is by the end of this week to long for you guys? Should I have everything figured out sooner? I just sort of wanted to wait until more people joined.

We can start whenever you like. I don't really know how to do this either, which is why I'm so excited you are doing it! haha. I like all the suggestions you have given. Having it planned out in advance so you can reserve books at the library, or whatever. Also, I wanted to ask though, do you only want us to post about books we are ALL reading? Do you want us just to post like reviews and critics about books we have read just for everyone to know? It's not much of a discussion, but maybe we could do that too. You don't have too though.

I like the author idea but narrow it down to a couple of books or 3 books. Then we will all have a choice, and will all be interested in the other books the author has written. I also like the subject idea that Kate suggested. I like to be introduced to a wide variety of books that I wouldn't have otherwise read. Goodreads.com is a great website and some of you are already my "friends". I've really enjoyed reading along with you on that website. I think we should have a month timeframe to read the book. Lets do the 6-month idea too. That way I can get the book. It takes forever to get books down here if they're not in the library, and also costs me money. You guys don't know how lucky you are! I also want to be an author. Anything you decide to do is great with me. mm

BookMooch.com is also a great resource for getting free books in advance. You just post what books you have that you don't want, and then you can pick other people's books that they don't want. It's a place to start and look for the books in our club that we are reading, with very little expense to you. =) Just a thought.

PS, Am I still allowed to be in the club if I haven't read Twilight? =)
