Guess I need to put this at the top!

Because some of us are listing books that we've never read before and don't really know what they are about but heard it through a grape vine that they were good, and someone on this club may have already read the book and found it very inappropriate, or have other opinions about it; this is going to be the new set RULE!
I'm going to do a rating system and I hope it works. If you have already read one of the books listed then you are welcome to make a COMMENT (not a post) about the book.

This is how I would like the comments to look....
"I have read (book name) and this is my rating for it...(ratng)"
That's ALL!!!

Rating system:
EP: Extremely Poor
P: Poor
O: Okay
G: Good
EG: Extremely Good
E: Excellent

Now if the rating is above okay, then at the end of the month that the book is in you may write a post or comment about the book and what you thought of it. Please keep thoughts of the book for the months that they have been chosen for!!! If there is something seriously wrong with a book that someone has suggested then PLEASE EMAIL me with that problem and I will contact that person and let them know.
I really hope this works out and that you guys can agree with what I'm doing.
Thank you!
Mele

"A Mothers Influence" by Margaret d. Nadauld

Open discussion on "A Mothers Influence"

I actually didn't get to read this book because the library didn't have it and I can't afford to buy it right now. I'll have to get to it later I guess.

I absolutely love this book, but I won't say anything on the post in case someone hasn't read it. If you're curious as to what I had to say then read the comments.

October Books...

Just to let you all know...discussions on the October books will begin this Satruday, October 24th.
I'm going to put a post up for each book and then we can just leave comments on that post. I think that will look more organized. What do you think?

Thanks!!!

December

Ladies, I was wondering what you guys thought about sort of violent books? I recently read the first two books in a soon to be trilogy/series (the second book was just released). The first is titled "The Hunger Games" and the second is "Catching Fire" both by Suzanne Collins. They are wonderful and I was unable to put them down. I read each in one day! The second was just released on the 31st of August, so there's still a little while until the third one is even published. Anyways... long story short, they are violent. Not gorey and nasty, but it's set in the future with wars and kind of gladiator-like games. I know. Sounds "manly"... but I think we should give them a try. I was thinking of including "The Hunger Games" in my December suggestions and then, if it is read and liked, we can see about sticking "Catching Fire" later in 2010.
Any comments?
As for now, my suggestions are as follows for December:
1. The Secret Life of Brett Colton
2. The Hunger Games
3. Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone (gotta have me some Harry! and ya gotta start at the beginning!)

Hopefully to help...

Because some of us are listing books that we've never read before and don't really know what they are about but heard it through a grape vine that they were good, and someone on this club may have already read the book and found it very inappropriate; this is going to be a new set rule.
I'm going to do a rating system and I hope it works. It you have read the book then I want you to make a COMMENT not post about it.

This is how I would like that comment to appear....

"I have read (books name) and this is my rating for it (rating)"

Rating system:

P: Poor
O: Okay
G: Good
EG: Extremely Good
E: Excellent

I really hope this works out and that you guys can agree with what I'm doing. I just don't want anything wrong to happen. I just know there was some mixed emotions about what just happened and I would prefer it if we could all just have a fun time with this!
Thanks you guys!

The Time Traveler's wife

May I make a suggestion?

I started reading the book, "The Time Traveler's Wife," and by the end of the first couple of chapters, there was sex, extreme profanity, and swearing.

I put it down because I had lost all interest in the plot as a result of all the offenses above.

I strongly suggest we read a different book to keep with Mele's (and my) request that the books remain within the standards of the club.

Thanks!

Books...

Yes...one of the main reasons why I wanted to start this blog is because I wanted to be introduced to new kinds of books. Everyone is encouraged to recommend any type of book she or he likes. We may find that there is a type of book that we didn't know we liked. :) That is why I want other Authors on here and others suggestions.

All right I have kind of an idea of how I want this blog to work.

1. We are going to plan the books six months in advance. That gives us time to try and get a hold of a copy of the books.

2. You can choose either books or Authors but keep it to three books to choose from.

3. If the book is a series than please note so....then we will continue series if you desire but still do a different book for that month as well.

4. At the top of the blog will be the list of books for each month. So everyone that I assign please give me suggestions of three books that you would like for your month so I can post it. (you may email them or leave them as a comment) If I do not have you as suggesting a book right now, don't worry! I will get to you. There are more than I thought who would want to do this, so to make this fair I'm going to assign you in the order of who came first, second, and so on.

5. Please no complaining and remember to just have fun with this.

I'm really excited for this!!!!! Let's get started!!!!

October: Mele

November: Mindy

December: Heather W.

January: Sam

February: Sarah

March: Katy

April: Ashley

May: Marlene

This is all who are Authors right now. I know six months is only to March, but I figured since we only had two more people, I'd go ahead and write those as well. :)

Thanks Everyone!!!

The New Book Blog...

The blog is now official!!!!
So I'm curious, do you guys want to start it this month or would you guys like to start it next month? Let me know. If you want to start it this month I will choose a book.
Also if you guys have suggestions please let me know. I'm open to any suggestions...this is the first time I've ever done something like this. My first question is....Is a month too long for one book? I was thinking that maybe we could do two in a month? Course you're always welcome to read more if you'd like, but I'm saying for the club. Should we read at least two books for discussion a month or is one enough for everyone?
Here is what I'm thinking....my dear sister made a good point that sometimes not everyone can get a hold of books that may be suggested. So I've got a couple suggestions, let me know what you think or give your suggestions.
First Suggestion: I was thinking that instead of just choosing one book for the month, that the person choose two to three books. Then everyone see if they can get a hold of at least one if not all of those books by the end of the first week. Then we see which book was most available and make that book our main focus for the month. We can still read the other book or books so we can discuss those as well.
Next Suggestion: The person of the month chooses three to four books for the month. Everyone just read whichever one they like the most, then at the end of the month you post what you thought of the book and anything else. If you notice someone else read that book, then you can discuss it with that person as well. That way we can see what everyone thought of the book they read and see if we would be interested in it later.
Now for choosing books....you can choose any book that you like. Unless it's vulgar...I will NOT have things like that on my blog. Now, I know that most of the books I read have series, so do you guys have suggestions for those? This is what I was thinking. If you have a book that is a series make it known at the beginning. If everyone reads that book and really enjoys it and wants to continue it, then we do so for the next however many months it takes. Does that make sense?
Any more suggestions? I've never been to a book club let alone run one. :) So tell me if there's anything else I should be doing. If I don't add you as an author of the blog and you'd like to be, please let me know.
Thanks everyone and I'm really looking forward to this.
